L’objectif de ce projet est de comprendre comment des ambiances peuvent concourir au développement d’un quartier. Pour cela, il développe trois liens possibles entre ambiances et développement d’un quartier.

Premièrement il s’intéresse au rôle des ambiances dans le développement de l’image d’un quartier. Ce questionnement prend pour hypothèse de travail que l’expérience des ambiances d’un quartier peut contribuer à l’image que des personnes qui ne l’habitent pas peuvent se faire de celui-ci lors de sa visite. Deuxièmement le projet étudie les liens entre ambiances des lieux et de leurs situations spécifiques et le développement d’une « Stimmung » du quartier, plus stable et partagée collectivement. Enfin, il s’intéresse à la participation en interrogeant la manière par laquelle les ambiances peuvent contribuer au développement de l’engagement civique dans et pour le quartier.

Ce projet est basé sur une revue de la littérature des champs de recherche sur les ambiances, les affects, le développement du quartier, le care et la participation.

The aim of this project is to understand how atmospheres can foster neighbourhood development. It focuses on three dimensions of possible connections between atmospheres and the development of neighbourhoods.

In the first place it is interested in the importance of atmospheres for the development of the image of a neighbourhood. This focus is based on the working hypothesis that the experience of the atmospheres of a neighbourhood can contribute significantly to the image that people from outside develop on the occasion of visits to the neighbourhood. Secondly, the project examines the connection of atmospheres of specific places and situations in the neighbourhood with the development of a more stable and collectively shared mood (Stimmung) in the neighbourhood. Finally, it looks at participation and asks to what extent atmospheres contribute to the development of civic engagement within and for the neighbourhood.

The project is based on a literature review in the fields of research on atmospheres, affect, neighbourhood development, care and participation.
