Starting from the complex community and society context of Lebanon, and especially from its capital, Beirut, this thesis project questions identity conflicts and deals with the struggle of ambiances in two so-called irregular neighbourhood in mutation in the Greater Beirut (Lebanon). The “Ouzai” and “Karm El Zeitoun – Syriac” neighbourhoods are composed of heterogenous ambiances and identities, which are built by multiple uses. Nowadays involved in speculative urban transformations, how can we imagine their future? With a situated investigative work, the thesis aims to update the constitutive elements of this heterogeneity and to test how an ambiance approach can allow us to imagine evolutions.
